Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and valid Texas teaching certificate

Understanding of teacher development

Knowledge of formative assessments

Effective coaching, problem solving, and conferencing skills

Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and learning

Demonstrated effectiveness as a professional role model

Demonstrated use of best teaching practices

Understanding of and ability to use teacher development research

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provide guidance and mentorship to other teachers in assigned grade level or subject.
  2. Assist administration with planning and implementing changes to curriculum, policies, and procedures.
  3. Provide peer coaching to new and developing teachers; conduct classroom observations of assigned teachers and pre- and post-observation conferences.
  4. Meet regularly with assigned teachers and participate in ongoing support team training and meetings.
  5. Conduct formal assessment process and discuss assessment information with assigned teachers.
  6. Conduct informal assessments on an ongoing basis to monitor teacher growth and progress using such means as reciprocal observations, conversations, logs, or interactive journals.
  7. Assist teachers in understanding his or her students’ cultures and communities and in communicating with families about student achievement.
  8. Participate in delivery of small or group instruction to teachers.
  9. Participate in program assessment to determine program quality and effectiveness.
  10. Assist with curriculum development in assigned area.
  11. Assist with ordering, inventory, and distributing instructional materials and equipment.
  12. Establish and maintain open communication with assigned teachers.
  13. Maintain a professional relationship with teachers and support team members.
  14. Support team by providing lesson plans/materials in the event of a teacher absence/vacancy.
  15. Provide classroom support in the event of a vacancy (ex. covering classes if needed).
  16. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  17. Participate in professional development activities to improve mentoring skills.
  18. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for lead teachers.
  19. Compile, maintain, and file all paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
  20. Maintain emotional control under stress; may be required to work prolonged or irregular hours.
