Job Title: Electrician Apprentice

Exemption Status: Nonexempt/At-Will

Reports to: Journeyman Electrician, Master Electrician Foreman

Pay Grade: H5

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install electrical systems, services, and equipment for the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electrical systems and fixtures in district facilities.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:

High School Diploma/GED from a state accredited high school or educational program

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Registered with the City of San Antonio as an Electrical Apprentice

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring and operating principles of motors

Knowledge of current electrical codes and ordinances

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Ability to perform mathematical calculations

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Ability to use hand and power tools

Must be ready to participate in continuing education and training related to position

Meet physical requirements of position description

 

 

Experience:
One year eperience in electrical field


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


Maintenance and Repair

1. Repairs/replaces plugs, switches, ballast, exhaust motors, etc.

2. Follow orders as instructed by Journeyman Electricians

3. Changes light fixtures.

4. Changes security lights.

5. Adjust time clocks for daylight saving time changes

6. Observes and work closely with Journeyman Electricians

7. Work with other team members in the cleanliness and upkeep of facilities and grounds

8. Must be able to drive and maintain an acceptable driving record due to insurance                           requirements regarding use of district vehicles.

9. Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Foreman or designee.

 

Safety

10. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

11. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; hand tools; power tools; light truck or van 


Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions 


Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving 


Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis


Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
